The Ryan Romero Youth Soccer Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life of Ryan Romero. Ryan was born in Port Angeles, WA on October 18, 1981 and passed away on February 18, 2018 at the age of 36.
Ryan was a beautiful and gracious soul who gave endlessly to others. He was incredibly kind and respectful with a mega-watt smile and an infectious laugh. Besides his family, Ryan's love was soccer!
Ryan started playing soccer at the age of 5. The first team he played for was the PAYSC Goal Busters, Coached by Linda Sage. He played with the Goal Busters for several years and then was given the opportunity to play with the DARE tournament team and the inaugural Storm King - Image Soccer Team, coached by Parker Smith and Jeff Pitman. "Ryan was one of prominent members of the Image Soccer Club and his ferocious defensive play was one of the main reasons for this team's success and the high school team's great two-year run," recalls Coach Pitman. "Off the field, he was a gentle and caring individual with a smile that would light up a room. "
Playing on the Image Team, Ryan attended several soccer camps. Image played matches in several states and traveled to Europe to play in matches in London and Germany. They also played tournaments in Amsterdam and Verona, Italy where they played teams from around the world.
Ryan played on the PAHS Varsity soccer team from 1997-2000. The 2000 PAHS Soccer team placed 2nd in the 4A State Championship and he was awarded the Coaches Award. Ryan then went on to play for the inaugural Peninsula College soccer team from 2001-2002. After graduation, he continued playing soccer in the Port Angeles City League. Ryan played soccer for 18 years and always proudly wore the number 15.
